Gibson embarked on his educational journey at East Texas Baptist University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1993. Driven by a passion for education, he furthered his studies, achieving a Master's in Education from Lamar University in 2002 and, later, a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston in 2015. These academic milestones equipped him with the skills necessary to lead and innovate within the educational sector.

Jerry began his career as a teacher and coach, initially combining his interests in academics and athletics. This dual role enabled him to influence student development both on and off the field directly. His career advanced through progressively more responsible positions, including those of athletic director, assistant principal, and principal, which provided him with comprehensive experience in educational administration.

In 2011, Gibson was appointed as the Executive Director of Secondary Education in the Waco Independent School District, overseeing the educational strategies and operations of numerous schools. His effective management and innovative approaches during this period significantly improved academic outcomes for over 6,500 students.

Jerry’s leadership journey continued as he assumed the superintendency of several school districts over the next decade, including Coldspring, Oakhurst, and Marshall. His tenure in these districts was marked by a dedication to implementing effective educational policies and programs, which fostered better learning environments and improved academic results.

Gibson's educational contributions have earned him multiple accolades, including being named ESC 7 Superintendent of the Year in 2020. His leadership efforts notably transformed Marshall ISD, boosting the district's performance from near failure to achieving a B average, illustrating his capacity to drive substantial improvements in educational quality.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry maintains a rich personal life on Galveston Island, where he values time spent with his family. He is also actively involved in community service, contributing to various charitable organizations and initiatives that benefit the Galveston and Houston areas. Additionally, he enjoys attending local sports events and engaging in golf, activities that allow him to relax and connect with his community on a personal level.
